What is Camp Kesem?

Camp Kesem is a national nonprofit that provides free, overnight summer camps for children and teens who are facing a parent or guardian’s cancer. Watermelon Bash benefits Texas A&M’s local Kesem chapter.

For many of these kids, life can feel heavy; full of worry, uncertainty, and questions they don’t always know how to ask. Camp Kesem gives them a break from that. It’s a place where they can laugh, play, make friends, and be surrounded by a community that they can relate to.

At camp, kids aren’t defined by what’s happening at home. They’re just kids again.

The People Behind the Camp

Camp Kesem is run by college student volunteers who care deeply about this mission. These counselors are there to support, encourage, and create a fun, welcoming space where every camper feels safe and included.

They’re not alone, either. Camps are supported by nurses, mental health professionals, and experienced staff who help make sure every child is cared forthroughout the week.

Together, they create an environment built on trust, joy, and understanding.
